The Fear that Comes with Performing at a High Level

Often times, young men and women think that if they feel fear or worry or doubt or uncertainty, then that must mean they can’t do it or aren’t good enough to do it or “should” lower their aim.

  • What if I can’t do this?
  • What if I fail?
  • What if I’m not good enough?

These are questions that often popped into my head within the past year!

Fear and doubt and uncertainty don’t stop …

  • When you get better (because there will always be a “next level”)
  • When you get older (aka grow out of it)
  • When you suck it up (that just means you’re holding onto all that doubt, fear, and worry inside of you)

So if you’re thinking, “I’ll do it WHEN …” stop that. Too often “when” never comes and you find yourself waiting forever for the “right time” to even begin to try.

One thing that’s been helpful for me is knowing that fear, doubt, and uncertainty showing up along my journey is actually a GOOD thing.

It means I’m not just playing it safe. It means that I’m not just hiding out in my comfort zone. It means I’m on the verge of GROWTH and learning!

And isn’t that such an exciting place to be?

What about you?

What’s one of your favorite ways to deal with fear, doubt, and uncertainty or to help your daughter through it?
