Message for Athletes: when practice gets “boring”

Athletes,

I get it. Practice can be boring. Doing the same thing over and over and over again isn’t always the most fun.

Just remember, the idea is to drill your skills so you get to the point where, you aren’t only capable of executing them well in a practice setting, but in a competition setting too.

You want your skills to become so “automatic” that you can effectively perform in GAME situations even when you might be …

  • Tired
  • Under pressure
  • Sore
  • Got something weighing on your mind
  • etc, etc, etc

You want to train your muscles to they know the movement SO well that, even under less than ideal conditions, your body simply executes. Because you’ve practice these skills so many times, you don’t even need to think about it, your body just knows what to do.

Remember, EVERY time you perform a skill in practice (not just going through the motions, but taking it seriously) contributes to your excellence in competition.

Every rep you do you take with you into your games to help you be your best. Why not get in as many good reps as you can? Boring or not 😉

And if the repetition is getting too monotonous for you, find some way to add a little twist to to practice. Create some kind of added challenge for yourself so it’s more fun, more interesting, requires your focus and attention, and less of a drag <3

Best wishes to you always.
